The volume Seoul Nights: Song Lyrics has nine lyrics about life in Seoul, South Korea. Lyrics in the album refer to Seoul-based activities like drinking and eating in multiple venues, the mixing of expats and Koreans, particularly English teachers and military, and big-city life. Portions of a couple of lyrics are used in the short story anthology Sangsu Tales: The Red Cricket and Other Stories. Local areas and geographical features are referenced, such as Jongno in “It Happened in Jongno” and the Han River in “Enjoy the Downturn.” The first few songs were written to be of the stand-alone type. In contrast, three lyrics in the latter part are related to each other, as they were about the three stages of love. The romance- themed songs are called “No Way to Say,” “The Rush,” and “Always Another.” Following the songs about love is the humorous drinking lyric “Seoul Pub Song,” which is about the popular Itaewon area. The last lyric “Brown Branch” is about the sky over Seoul and it’s relationship with the city dwellers.

The lyrics in The Auburn Girl: Song Lyrics were written as a companion to the literary fiction novella The Auburn Girl. In the novel, the main character Jungyun releases The Auburn Girl, a jazz- pop album. The album climbs the Korean pop charts and obtains mild success. Some of the lyrics in this songbook are referenced in the novella. There are sixteen lyrics, covering topics like jazz, love, relationships, endings, local Seoul life, and Jungyun’s “Auburn Girl” persona.
